Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Precision’s skilled cosmetic dentists offer four different types of teeth whitening.

Zoom & Enlighten

Combination Whitening

Our most effective teeth whitening option consists of a Combination of Zoom! WhiteSpeed professional teeth whitening followed by home teeth whitening using custom-made whitening trays and the ultra-effective Enlighten Evolution Carbamide peroxide gel.

Combination whitening is the quickest and most effective way to achieve outstanding results. With Combination Zoom Advanced Power Whitening, we guarantee a B1 shade result or whiter.

Zoom! WhiteSpeed

With genuine Zoom! White Speed you can go up to 8 shades lighter in just one hour. Zoom takes approximately 1 hour to whiten teeth by an average of 8 shades. The Zoom Advanced Power Whitening procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. Zoom Advanced Power Whitening Gel is then applied to the teeth. This is activated by a specially designed laser light. To deliver better teeth whitening results, we also run the full 3 cycles of Zoom whitening as recommended by Zoom.

Additionally, we change our Zoom laser light every 3 months to ensure fantastic results for every patient.

Zoom Teeth Whitening

What is Zoom WhiteSpeed Teeth whitening?

Zoom teeth whitening is a highly effective process that lightens discoloration of the enamel and dentine. Zoom is one of the most effective professional whitening treatments available.

How does the Zoom! WhiteSpeed Teeth Whitening system work?

The Zoom light activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentine and bleaches coloured substances. The structure of the tooth remains unchanged. The Zoom light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. New clinical tests have shown that Zoom Advanced Power whitening system delivers 33% better whitening immediately after the procedure than gel alone, and 44% superior results after 30 days.

How is exposure to the Zoom! light controlled?

The Zoom teeth whitening procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. In addition to this, protective eyewear must be worn.

Patients who are light sensitive or taking any light sensitive medications, whether over the counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their doctor prior to the procedure. For anyone who is not a candidate for Zoom, Enlighten home teeth whitening may be a viable alternative option. Your Precision cosmetic dentist will be able to advise.

How long does Zoom! WhiteSpeed Teeth Whitening take?

The complete procedure takes less than an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by 45 minutes of bleaching.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients may experience sensitivity during and after the treatment. The Zoom light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. Rarely, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate. Your dentist can also recommend post-treatment sensitivity relief products.

Home Teeth Whitening

Home teeth whitening involves wearing small, close fitting, super-sealed whitening trays with specially designed premium Enlighten Evolution Carbamide Peroxide whitening gel for ten nights.

We provide you with ten night’s supply of whitening gel and close fitting whitening trays, giving you everything you need to achieve fantastic results. Where possible, we can even provide you with a tailor-made whitening tray during your consultation visit so that you can start whitening straight away.

Enlighten Evolution Whitening

The kit consists of Enlighten Whitening gel, Enlighten own brand home whitening trays, and a desensitizer gel. Enlighten guarantee an Enamel shade B1 result with Enlighten Evolution.

Enlighten Whitening

The difference between Enlighten Whitening and other teeth whitening products is the results. Due to Enlighten Evolution increasing the tooth’s permeability to oxygen, stain molecules are effectively broken down. It is a combination treatment, meaning that there is a two-week home treatment followed by a 40 minute visit to the Precision clinic.

How white will my teeth get?

Enlighten Evolution bleaching can whiten teeth up to 16 shades. Results can vary, but if used correctly all teeth will whiten dramatically.

Will they look too white?

No, natural teeth very rarely look too white.

Will my crowns, veneers, or fillings change colour?

No, therefore, you may need to change these after bleaching.

Is there pain or discomfort?

You may get some transient sensitivity; however, your dentist will give you easy to use desensitising swabs to take home. These will work immediately.

How long does it take?

The procedure requires you to spend 14 nights wearing your custom made whitening trays at home. On the 15th day, you will return to your Precision dentist for the second treatment which takes only 40 minutes.

How long does it last?

Results can last indefinitely with some very simple maintenance and by wearing the trays for one night every other month.

Is it safe?

Completely. The materials used in Evolution bleaching have been used in dentistry for over 100 years.

Internal Tooth Whitening and Inside-Outside Tooth Whitening

When teeth become internally discoloured due to repeated dental procedures, root canal treatments, or dental trauma, then ordinary whitening will not be effective. Internal Whitening bleaches the tooth from the inside out to gently restore the tooth back to a whiter shade. This procedure will involve slight drilling of the tooth.

Internal Tooth Whitening

Sometimes teeth can become internally discoloured due to a trauma, repeated dental procedure, or a root canal treatment. This colouring can vary from light grey in appearance to black. This can seriously affect a patient’s self-confidence, especially when the teeth are visible in the smile zone. Traditional teeth whitening methods, such as Laser whitening or home teeth whitening systems, are not effective on internal discolouration.

Sometimes, your dentist may suggest porcelain veneers or crowns to hide the deep tooth discolouration. The problem with crowns and some porcelain veneers is that extensive tooth enamel reduction is necessary. This procedure is irreversible and costly. However, now there is internal tooth whitening and inside/outside tooth whitening techniques available to tackle this issue effectively.

How is Internal tooth whitening carried out?

During the assessment visit, we check the discoloured tooth. This is to make sure it is a good candidate for internal whitening. To establish this, we will usually take an x-ray.

We remove some filling and root filling material via the back of the tooth to create an access area for the whitening gel. The tooth will still look normal from the front. We then either place whitening gel directly over the root canal space (Internal tooth whitening) or create a special whitening tray that has access to the inside of the tooth (Inside/Outside whitening).

After a week of internal whitening, we then reassess the tooth. If the tooth is restored to its former whiteness then it will be sealed using a white filling. Alternatively, the procedure will be continued to aim for a more pleasing result.

How long do Internal tooth whitening results last?

Usually, this procedure will last for many years. Top-ups may be necessary from time to time. This could be every few years.

Internal tooth whitening risks

These kinds of whitening treatments (internal whitening and inside/outside whitening) do not always work. However, in the right hands, they are usually very successful treatments. It is always advisable to attempt an internal or inside/outside whitening procedure first before opting for more invasive treatments like dental veneers or crowns. The whitening treatment allows the tooth enamel to remain in its natural state.
